Success Stories

How was it then?

When I was young, I enjoyed watching TV commercials, especially those with humanitarian values, brands that conducted charity programs and supported the poor and helped children go to school from their revenue. I hoped that one day I could work in such jobs.

I enrolled in a university with a good marketing program where I participated in many useful communication activities for my future work. As a student, I had the opportunity to work for the marketing department of some major companies in Vietnam such as Abbott U.S. and Prudential. I graduated early with an excellent degree and was one of the top 10 outstanding students in my department.

Before I joined marketing in the fintech field in Japan, I had 3 years of experience in real estate marketing in Vietnam. It was a great learning experience, but I quickly realized that I wanted more creative control over the projects I was working on. So, I decided to go abroad and look for a job where I could have more autonomy in my work.

After arriving in Japan, I searched for a convenient online money transfer service. At that time, most money transfer companies in Japan required customers to transfer money via remittance cards, one card for one recipient. Instead, I wanted to register and verify my account online, transfer money anytime, anywhere, top-up and place transactions online, with transparent fees and rates. The most important thing was to transfer money quickly, and I could confirm the transaction status immediately to feel at ease doing other tasks.

That’s when I stumbled upon Smiles, the company’s mission resonated with me, a startup that focused on a mobile remittance app. At that time, Smiles was a new service that was not supported in Vietnamese. After researching, I thought I could do something to improve this service and help more foreigners living in Japan find a safe and convenient money transfer service with high exchange rates, affordable fees, and good customer support, and…WE DID IT!

How is it now?

Joining the team at Smiles was a breath of fresh air. At Smiles, we are creating a more positive and inclusive workplace culture and I love being part of a team that is truly passionate about making a difference. Smiles has been giving me many opportunities to work on a variety of projects that have challenged me creatively and allowed me to grow professionally. I feel grateful to be part of such an innovative and inspiring company.

I am demanding in my work, so sometimes, I get stressed, but above all, I love my job and the people I work with. I am happy to strive here and see the achievements of myself, my team, and the company through the years, which motivates me to develop every day.

Every year, Smiles has many donation programs that have helped many people in Japan and in my home country as well; this fulfilled my childhood dream of helping others
