Success Stories

How was it then?

I was born in a small village called Kiupukan and spent most of my childhood and schooling years in East Nusa Tenggara with my family. In 2011, I decided to challenge myself by pursuing a master’s degree in applied mathematics outside of my hometown and away from my family. My hope was to become a mathematics lecturer in my childhood place.

However, things didn’t go as planned when my father passed away in 2013 and my family had to relocate to my mother’s hometown in another province. It was a challenging time for me to adapt to a new place.

Eventually, I landed a job as a mathematics lecturer on the beautiful island of Sumbawa in West Nusa Tenggara. I thought I had settled down there, but fate had other plans for me when I got an opportunity to go to Japan and stay for a while. Despite being in Japan, I continued my research at my university remotely and worked part-time until I discovered Smiles Mobile Remittance.

How is it now?

I started working at Smiles Mobile Remittance as a part-time remote worker in 2018.
In 2019, I was offered a full-time position as the first staff member tasked with developing the Indonesia corridor from scratch, which presented a significant challenge for me.

One thing that stands out about Smiles is their commitment to promoting work-life balance, and they prioritize responsibilities and professionalism in the workplace. They provide opportunities for employees to try new things and grow at their own pace. As a Muslim, I appreciate Smiles’ emphasis on diversity and accommodating dietary needs during celebrations. Overall, my experience at Smiles has been an enjoyable adventure.

What’s your takeaway from your experiences?

My takeaway from my experiences is the importance of being adaptable and open to new opportunities. Life can take unexpected turns, but by being willing to try new things and take on challenges, we can grow both personally and professionally. Additionally, working for a company that prioritizes work-life balance and diversity has been a positive and fulfilling experience for me.
