U.S. Visa Bond Pilot Program: What Filipinos Should Know

The U.S. Department of State will start a one-year visa bond pilot program on Aug. 20, 2025, and will run for 12 months. Under this plan, some applicants for B-1 (business) and B-2 (tourist) visas may need to post a refundable bond of $5,000, $10,000, or $15,000. The bond will be returned if the traveler leaves the U.S. on time and follows visa rules.

So far, only Zambia and Malawi have been named as part of the pilot. But the list may expand to include more countries in the future.

Filipinos aren’t affected at the moment  but that could change. The U.S. may add more countries to the list over time. It’s important to stay informed and check official updates before applying for a visa.

Documents You Should Always Prepare

• A valid passport with at least six months before expiration
  
• A visa (or proof of eligibility if traveling visa-free)
  
• Proof of travel purpose, finances, and return plans
