Meet Miguel!
I’m Miguel from Imus, Cavite, Philippines. I was born and raised in Makati. I grew up in the horse racing industry, which was my father’s job and supported our family, and which is also my chosen career and occupation to this day.
Hardships and challenges that made you a stronger person
I also went through a lot of hardships and trials before I reached where I am today. First of all, the trust of the people you meet. Not everyone we meet will like us, but as long as we don’t do anything bad to our friends, there’s nothing to worry about. Second, I’ve also experienced many misfortunes and accidents that even led to my heart surgery. One foot is in the hole in this profession of ours. But just trust and faith in the Almighty.
Proudest moment(s) since starting your journey living abroad
It’s not easy to be an OFW, being away from family and looking for a life in another country. But because of the dream, you have to endure everything. I can say that I’m proud of myself because I learned to stand on my own two feet and stood firm in deciding that I had to look for a life elsewhere. I may be homesick, but for my family who are my inspiration and reason to work, I became strong and independent. Who would have thought, I do everything from housework, cooking my meals during the day, laundry, etc. You can’t expect anything else but yourself.
Life lessons and advice for living overseas
Strength, courage, strategy, prayer, and faith in God are all that is needed to achieve our dreams and goals in life. Thank you to those who have helped and trusted us since the beginning of our journey.
