Successful Donation Campaign Supporting Orphanages in Indonesia During Ramadan by Smiles Mobile Remittance

Tokyo, Japan – Smiles Mobile Remittance Indonesia, owned and operated by Digital Wallet Corporation, successfully hosted a Ramadan campaign supported by Bank BRI, one of the largest banks in Indonesia, called “30 days of Ramadan Blessings with Smiles Year One” between Mar. 21, 2023, and Apr. 21, 2023. The purpose of the campaign was to spread happiness during the holy month of Ramadan and to help the less fortunate and orphanages in Indonesia.

For every transaction from Japan to Indonesia during the Ramadan campaign, Smiles deducted 10 points, equalling 10 Japanese yen to orphanages in Indonesia. As a result, Smiles customers helped raise close to 200 thousand Japanese yen, which helped to provide daily necessities such as rice, cooking oil, and instant noodles to orphanages and less fortunate families. On top of that, Digital Wallet was able to make an additional contribution of over 175 thousand yen to help the orphanages.

During the month of Ramadan, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset and break their fast with a meal called iftar. To follow the Islamic saying, “Whoever gives food to a fasting person with which to break his fast will have a reward like his without detracting from the reward of the fasting person in the slightest,” Smiles Indonesia aimed to help the less fortunate and the orphanages in Indonesia to break their fast with them and donate care packages.

In terms of activities, the Smiles Indonesia Team visited two orphanages in Lombok and four orphanages and three less fortunate families in Solo to distribute daily necessities and to have breakfast with the children.

The team visited Baitul Amin Ampenan Orphanage on Apr. 4, 2023, and Asal Mula Gerung Orphanage on Apr. 7, 2023, in Lombok. They also traveled around Lombok on Apr. 17, 2023, to distribute daily necessities to those in need. In Solo, the team visited Griya Yatim & Dhuafa, Gunungan Orphanage, Yayasan Nur Maghfiroh Orphanage, and PAKYM Orphanage. 

On top of spending time at orphanages, Smiles Indonesia visited three impoverished families, distributing goods such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, instant noodles and bread.

Overall, the campaign received positive feedback, and the team hopes to continue this campaign next year to continue helping strengthen struggling communities in Indonesia. 

The Smiles Indonesia Team hopes that with the care packages that they provided, the orphaned children will feel that they are loved and cared for, bringing smiles to their faces during the holy month of Ramadan.
