stimulus check

Hello Smilers! Because of the continuous spread of the Corona-virus, recently, the Japanese government announced that they will be giving a second or additional stimulus of 100,000 yen for people who are exempted from residence tax from the first of January 2021. In this

article, we will be sharing the details of how you can receive 100,000 yen and check if you are eligible to receive them.

You can start applying or registering for the stimulus check if you have already received a letter from your local city hall containing the forms that you must complete. If you received the letter, it is most likely that you are eligible to receive the benefits from the government. Depending on the area where you reside, you may receive the letter from as early as January. We recommend that when you receive them, it is better that you apply it as soon as possible because there is a deadline day for the registrations. Different areas have different deadlines.

In the official Musashino-shi city website, it is stated that people who are exempted from the residence tax from January 1, 2021 until December 10, 2021, and have resided in that area during that period, they are eligible to receive the 100,000 yen stimulus check from the government. Depending on the area you reside, there are different criteria for you to be exempted for the residence tax. For example in Tokyo Musashino-shi, your annual income must be lower than 1,000,000 yen to be exempted. If you are under the legal age, a disabled person, a widow or a single parent, your annual income has to be below 2,044,000 yen (204.4万円) to be exempted. If you are unsure if you are exempted from the residence tax or if you are eligible to receive the 100,000 yen from the government, you can go to your local city hall or call them and consult with them.

For the stimulus check application, the process can be difficult because the form is in Japanese. If you are not confident with filling out the application, we suggest that you fill up the form with someone who understands Japanese, or we suggest you to go to the city hall and ask for assistance. From our personal experience, we only needed to tick some boxes. However, please be careful Smilers. There is a box that states that you do not want to receive the 100,000 yen. If you have received the first 100,000 yen in 2020, it is most likely that your bank account that you have previously registered will be stated there and you will receive the second 100,000 yen in the same account.

If you have not received the stimulus check in 2020, or you would like to change the bank account to receive the money, you are required to fill in your bank account details and make a photocopy of the cash card and your ID (e.g., driver’s license, My Number Card, Residence Card) and send it together with the form from the city hall. You are not required to pay postage fees when you are sending the documents to the city hall since the letter you will receive, has a return envelope included.

If you are unsure of how to fill in the stimulus check application form or have any doubts or problems, you can go to your local city hall and ask for assistance. They would be more than happy to help you!
