Skiing in Japan: Top Destinations 2025

With the cold winds blowing over the Sea of Japan, the country receives one of the highest snowfalls, making it one of the top destinations in the world for skiing and snowboarding.

From beginners to experts, families, couples and friends, Japan is a fantastic destination for skiing and snowboarding. The culture, hospitality and range of adventures, including skiing, snowboarding and exploring traditional hot springs, are remarkable, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Ski Season in Japan

The ski season in Japan depends on the area you choose to visit, but it generally begins in December and lasts until April. Northern areas like Hokkaido and higher-altitude locations such as Nagano experience heavier snowfall earlier in the season.

The best time to visit is usually from January to February when snowfall is most consistent. However, these months can be more crowded, so it’s recommended to book accommodations and other essentials in advance if planning to visit during this peak period.
