Japanese Government Announces Summer Electricity and Gas Bill Subsidies

August receives the highest level of support because it is generally the hottest month of the year and often results in the highest electricity consumption. 

Government officials say the program is intended to help offset rising energy costs and provide relief for consumers who may be struggling with increased household expenses. 

How the subsidies will work

For most residents, the discounts are expected to be applied automatically through their electricity and gas providers. This means customers generally will not need to submit separate applications or paperwork to receive the benefit.
