Top things to do in Japan: For adventure-seekers and daredevils

Activities

Japan, as seen by many, is widely known as a paradise of scenic beauty, and vibrant culture, with polite and courteous people. However, not everyone knows this country is also a place for adventure-seekers and daredevils.

In this article, we will guide you to some thrilling activities and areas in Japan, where you can finally let your adrenaline rush.

Skydiving at Fujioka

If you’re aching to finally check  off a daring activity from your list, try visiting Skydive Fujioka, which is conveniently located just one and a half hours away from Central Tokyo.

Conquering your fear of heights will be inevitably tested, especially since you will be more than 3,000 feet above the ground. However, there’s no need to worry because, prior to boarding the plane or helicopter, a brief training session will be provided to ensure your safety. More importantly, you will be accompanied by a professional tandem who will help you navigate your way down.

The price ranges from ¥41,000 to ¥66,000, depending on the course that you will take.

Bungee jumping at Ibaraki

If you think that bungee jumping is very much comparable to skydiving, be prepared because it will undoubtedly give you a unique experience. Without a tandem, you must summon an extra boost to jump off a bridge. But don’t fret because, in Japan, stringent safety measures are in place to guarantee your safety.

Previously known as the highest bungee jump in Japan, Ryujin Bungy delivers not just a thrilling experience but also majestic views around its area, especially since it houses one of Japans’ longest pedestrian suspension bridges. It is situated in Ibaraki, Japan, which is roughly two hours away from Tokyo.

For first-timers, you will only need to pay ¥19,000; if you wish to jump off again on the same day, you will have to pay another ¥8,000. Click here for more details.

Water rafting at Gunma

Are you tired of jumping off a plane or a bridge? Try traversing through a rough river with your friends, instead.

Water rafting is just one of the many options that you can do if you’re visiting Gunma, Japan, which is located two to three hours away from Central Tokyo. If you’re interested in doing this, check Canyons. They offer a variety of water activities.

If you decide to water raft, the price will depend on the course that you will take. Generally, it ranges from ¥5,000 to ¥16,000. Canyons will also take care of your equipment needs. All you need to bring is your swimwear and a towel.

Reaching Mt. Fuji’s peak

This may be a sign that it’s time to embark on another thrilling adventure. Prepare your lungs and be ready to take on the challenge to conquer Mt. Fuji’s peak, which is one of Japan’s major religious and cultural landmarks.

If you’re planning to make it to Mt. Fuji’s peak, it’s necessary to keep the following points in mind:

  • The climbing season for Mt. Fuji starts from early July to early September.
  • There are four trails in Mt. Fuji, and you have to pick one as your starting point for your ascent. Please note that each trail offers a distinct level of difficulty.
  • Gear up! Although the climbing season in Mt. Fuji is also the peak of summer in Japan, the weather at the summit is quite the opposite. You may need to brace yourself for frigid temperatures and strong winds on your way to the summit of Mt. Fuji.
  • This activity offers two trekking timeframes: a day trip or a two-day trip. If you wish to witness the sunrise from the summit of Mt. Fuji, you must choose the latter.
  • If you don’t have a personal ride, make sure to book a bus ride to Mt. Fuji.

Climbing Mt. Fuji is generally free. But, of course, you will need to prepare some cash for food and other necessities, especially if you’re planning to embark on the two-day trip.

Paragliding around Mt. Fuji

If you want to enjoy the breathtaking view of Mt. Fuji from above, consider the paragliding course offered by Sky Asagiri. They have professionals who will guide you through the paragliding experience. If you want to partake in paragliding by yourself, they also have that option for you.

Sky Asagiri offers two courses: Tandem Course and Set Course. The price ranges from  ¥10,000 to ¥20,000. You will also need to book a schedule prior to taking the course if you are interested.
